We spent three days driving out, leaving late Friday to avoid the rains expected on Saturday in Minnesota. On the way we experienced stoppages of the car's engine, due not to my expected thoughts of ignition problems, but instead due to a balky fuel pump, as Diane predicted. But this time I had my trouble shooting gear with me and we were able to proceed with inconvenience, but confidence. As the stoppages became more frequent, we stripped down the fuel pump in French Lick, and had no more problems with it on the two day trip back home. All of our driving was off interstate. You can see things that way that you never would, such as a Ford GT close up; the aftermath of a car launched into the lobby of a retirement home; and a stock appearing sheriff’s pickup truck pulling over speeders; and Amish carts. We also saw more than our share of backed up flood waters in the low lands along the Mississippi. If people tell you Iowa is flat, they haven’t been to eastern Iowa! |
