Install the latch back plate
  handle upside down install latch mechanism.jpg - Install the handle upside down from the outer side which allows you to install the mechanism in the backing plate while it isn't toggled over. Tighten the handle nut completely. The goal is to have the handles facing aft when the mechanism is pulled up, and the handle rotating up and over, not down and over to open the mechanism.
