Gearbox and clutch. I believe I'm heading toward removing both. I wish I could justify springing for an overdrive.
Gearbox
The Spitfire came with a non-overdrive three rail gearbox. I do remember that fourth gear was a bit loud at highway speeds, so I started to consider an overdrive. If I can get one, I think I will.

Clutch
The clutch system is pretty straight forward as far as hydraulic systems go. Of course, now that I've found my OD gearbox, and a later single rail one at that, I have to replace at least the clutch disc to match the splines, from 10 on the three rail box, to twenty on the single rail box. The original throw out bearing was 0.755 thick, the replacement only 0.645. I was concerned about losing throw, so I elected to go with the old one, which spins smoothly.

OD Gearbox
I found an Overdrive Gearbox on ebay and bought it directly from the seller. It replaces my three rail gearbox that came with the car, and is a single rail model. The gearbox included the mounting bracket, the prop shaft, the gear shift lever with the switch, and the right angle speedo drive, which arrived DOA. It also has a restraining cable that I'll have to look into using, as it should keep the engine in place in an accident.
