The engine was supposedly rebuilt, years ago. Since the rocker cover was completely glued on, I'm doubting the quality of the work already.

Engine Removal Engine removal is easy on a Spitfire with the bonnet removed. (9 Images)	Engine Teardown I'm not sure how far I'm taking the teardown. I'm close to pulling the engine, but first I'll pull the head. (124 Images)	Cylinder Head The car came with a standard 1500 218139 cylinder head. CC is 44.9cc, the inlet valve is 1.438 and the exhaust is 1.171. We are looking at a 1296 cylinder head 515573. CC is 37.4cc and the inlet is 1.303. The rocker shaft is toast. I have a theory about cylinder these cylinder heads, bigger valves don't always work better. For low end torque I'm sticking with the extra swirl I believe I'll get witht he smaller valve. Headwerks of Bloomington, MN will be doing the smoothing and seats. (38 Images)	Engine Build The plan is a 1300 head with dished pistons for a 9.0:1 CR, the Eurospec inlet and exhaust manifolds with Twin SUs. Hoping for minor HP and efficiency gains. (149 Images)	Exhaust Pulling the intake and exhaust manifild. The Weber intake has much thicker flanges than the exhaust. Something the PO neglected to compensate for. And what's this penetration to the water jacket in the exhaust stud hole at the rear? A European Spec Exhaust manifold and connector pipe wiill replace the old system. (61 Images)
Cooling It's a small radiator with not a lot of capacity. We will see how it works once we get the engine together (54 Images)	Distributor Retard distributor already set up for the Weber Carburetor. I'll send it back to work with SUs and the early cam shaft. Of importance is the tachometer drive at its base. Capping off the vacuum retard will allow running at reasonable timing at idle and full mechanical advance when all in. (17 Images)	Engine Installation Installing the engine and the intitial run in.
